We just love Christmas. No matter what, for the festive season, things just become a little bit brighter, better and, dare we say…magical. Our streets are filled with twinkling lights, Christmas trees peek out from windows across the country and Christmas carols invade our radio stations. It’s all just one big happy joyous time.

But what does it take to “create” the festive spirit? Besides putting up trees, and hanging up lights, how do you spread holiday cheer. We went behind the scenes with Al Rifai to find out how they brought their own brand of Christmas joy to their new campaign: The Nutcracker’s Magical Christmas. This year’s Christmas campaign features the famous Nutcracker – but not exactly as we know him. He looks the same, but the story is a little different.

Bringing the magic of Christmas to life in a film is no mean feat however. It takes time and effort and the contribution of a lot of different people. First, the story had to be written, bringing the Nutcracker to life on paper. Frame by frame, the storyboard started to reveal what the final film would look like. Some frames worked, some were redrawn, but eventually, at least on paper – the film started to take shape.

Once that was done, the team then looked into character development. Each character was studied from every side, and over time, evolved, version after version to reveal their final form. From their facial features and expressions to their clothes and their actions, the characters were given life through the magic of animation. But it wasn’t just the characters that needed to be studied. Every room in the film was created in detail: The carpets, the walls, and the light.

With the magic of imagination, Al Rifai was able to create the Nutcracker’s Magical Christmas and this year, we can all enjoy another Christmas tale that will warm up our winter nights.
