The fight against Cancer is endless and with no cure yet, we must live our lives in the healthiest way possible – taking as many precautions as we can.
Of course, yearly exams and self-checking procedures are all recommended but if there is a step further you can take, shouldn’t you take it? Yep, we thought so too. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we’re going to show you how our super nuts can help you live a healthier life and different ways you can eat them. Spreading awareness and gaining knowledge is an important factor in bringing us one step closer in really appreciating and taking care of our bodies. Whether you like to add them to your food, or take a handful of nuts on the go – here are the beneficial cancer-fighting super powers our nuts have.
Peanuts
Peanuts are filled with vitamin E, which play a huge role in keeping your cells defenses strong. The right amount to have per day would be 15 grams, which is equivalent to half a handful of peanuts. They contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids, various vitamins, fiber, antioxidants, and other bioactive compounds which all fight against various diseases including cancer. If you don’t enjoy eating peanuts alone, incorporate them into your meal: When you have your salad for lunch grab a half handful of peanuts and toss them in.
Cashews
The ever so tempting cashew! Cashews contain proanthocyandins, which is a class of flavanols that actually starve tumors and prevent cancer cells from dividing. Studies have shown eating 12 cashews a day can reduce your colon cancer risk. It’s really hard to find someone who doesn’t enjoy eating cashews alone but in case you don’t, incorporate this healthy nut by adding it to your chicken stir fry with rice. Delish.
Walnuts
Walnuts, A.K.A the super food, have recently been acknowledged for it’s nutritious super powers. Naturally high in omega-3 fatty acids it’s shown to help protect against breast cancer. However, the latest findings consist of cutting levels of hormone IGF-1, which is implicated in both, prostrate and breast cancer. Also, walnuts reduce cholesterol levels by drastic amounts – what you may have not known is when your cholesterol level is down it makes it that much harder for these cancer cells to grow quickly. Adding this super nut is easy, who doesn’t love a delicious bowl of banana walnut oatmeal in the morning?
Brazil Nuts
Out of all the nuts the Brazil nut has the highest level of antioxidants, which is a necessary factor of inhibiting cell growth thus the formation of malignant tumors. However, the Brazil nut does in fact have a secret weapon: selenium. The Brazil nut contains extremely high levels of selenium, which enhances the effect of antioxidants, which results in even higher preventive activity in the development of cancer. How’s this for a delicious snack? Add some brazil nuts with your Greek yogurt and prevent cancer in a delicious way.
Almonds
Last but not least, we have our delicious almonds. Almonds contain phytochemicals on their dark brown skin which plays a part in fighting off cancer cells and aid in keeping brain tumors from multiplying. In addition to phytochemicals, they have a high concentration of B17, which is composed of hydro-chronic acid – which cancer cells are unable to destroy and get eliminated through the process. One of our favorite ways of eating an almond is by adding it to your fish fillet. Yumm-y.
