Donner Sang Compter encourages people to become heroes. Every day they work hard to promote and raise awareness about blood donation, so that we can all do our part in saving the lives of others. In addition to their blood drives and campaigns, the organization facilitates the process of finding blood donors for patients by directly linking donors to those in need of transfusions.
On August 3rd, Donner Sang Compter will be holding their fundraising event ‘Red Meets White on August the 3rd to raise money and awareness. The fundraiser, happening at White Beirut will feature a host of entertainment and surprises – but don’t forget to stick to the dress code: your outfit will have to be accessorized with, you guessed it, something red!
Donner Sang Compter – a play on words in French, meaning ‘to give blood (without) expecting anything in return – started off as a way to find blood for one person that was in need and over the years has developed into a full grown movement. Yorgui Teyrouz, the president of the organization started Donner Sang Compter when his close friend passed away after he was in need of AB- blood and wasn’t able to receive it. Although it is the rarest blood type in the world, Yorgui felt like this devastating tragedy could have easily been avoided if there was an organization to ensure blood donations were available every time they were needed.
The success of the organization is thanks to the persevering volunteers who work hard every day to keep Donner Sang Compter’s mission alive. From blood donors and the members who work the stands, to the whole team behind the organization, their ongoing accomplishments are down to the individuals that make it happen.
The fact that the organization does so much for people should be a reward in itself but what also needs to be rewarded is their hard work and accomplishments thus far. For something that started in 2006 as a stand alone project, it has evolved into a database with 10,000 donors, fulfilling more than 450 blood demands per month, gathering more than 100 volunteers spread out across all Lebanese territories, with a 3 full-time staff fully dedicated to the cause. It’s safe to say they have come an extremely long way.
So dress up this Monday, grab your red hat, heels, and go nuts with your donations!
Tickets are available at all Malik’s branches for $60 or $70 at the door. Make sure to join Red Meets White’s Facebook event page for updates! facebook.com/events/1655656094671737/
